SHARE Discovery Village is the latest business to sign up to the ‘Live Here, Love Here – Plastic Promise’ campaign organised by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.

What is the ‘Live Here, Love Here – Plastic Promise’?

The ‘Live Here, Love Here’ initiative was created by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful as a way of instilling civic pride and encouraging businesses and individuals to reduce their usage of single-use plastic.

People can place their promises on the website https://www.liveherelovehere.org and see what other people have committed to do and where they rank on the leader board.

Ian Humphreys from Keep Northern Ireland said “We’ve known about the devastating impact of plastics for more than a decade. It is polluting our oceans, killing wildlife and damaging our health.

Yet our consumption of plastic continues to increase. The recent wider coverage of the impacts of plastic, such as Blue Planet, have helped raise awareness.

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful is working with local businesses and groups to help them achieve their goals for reducing waste through positive action.”

SHARE’s Environmental Credentials

Signing the Plastic Promise coincided with a Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful corporate team-building residential at SHARE.

The charity has pledged to reduce the amount of single-use plastic used throughout the organisation and has started by replacing single-use plastic cups and straws in its leisure suite with compostable alternatives.

SHARE Discovery Village CEO Peter McEvoy said “I am delighted that Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful chose SHARE as their corporate getaway.

We’ve always been a green organisation, pioneering solar, wind and sustainable water treatment before it was mainstream. Reducing our plastic usage is good for our environment, particularly as we are right on the lough shore.

We also work with 1000’s of young people each year and we are keen to set an example. Having Keep NI Beautiful on their team-building residential was the perfect time to commit to the Plastic Promise and reinforce our green credentials”.
